July 24th, 2009

Ericsson®, one of the leading mobile phone manufacturers and cellular service providers in the world, has been appointed by Indian telecommunications provider Idea Cellular to set up their mobile communications network throughout the country. They are said to start work in Mumbai and continue from there. Ericsson will supply radio access, microwave transmission and core network equipment including Ericsson’s Mobile SoftSwitch® Solution.

The advantages of this new development scheme are many. India will be part of the world revolution for 3G and there will be a tremendous increase in the usage of mobile network browsing. The advance in technology will also allow the area to be used in GPS tracking services as well as mobile business campaigns using the mobile internet. Idea Cellular members will also be able to gain wireless telephone usage for CDMA technology. GSM projects are scheduled to start in MAY 2008.
